Thankful for Mercy

There's a song by Sara Groves, "Esther", about a woman who is widowed at a young age and never has children of her own. She goes to Africa, presumably on a mission trip, and she's confronted with all the children that need a mother.

Alone with a life time, Africa called
She went for the first time, it grew in her heart
All of the children, all of those children

Now Esther has 2.4 million children
She writes us and asks us to pray for them all

There's a blogger in Texas who reminds me of Esther. Her life circumstances are different, she is married, she does have children but she also went Africa, as a blogger for Compassion International.

She’s compelled, she’s compelled by what she’s seen
And she tells us, she tells us do anything you can
To help, oh please help, there’s so much to do
And I’m just Esther

She's just Kristen. But Africa grew in her heart. She saw things that changed her and knew she had to do something about it.

She visits her homeland, she fights with her words
She comes to the courts of the kings of the earth
Who don’t understand their inherited power
To answer her question

In many ways, as a blogger, Kristen is fighting with her words. She's compelled. She had to act. And now she needs help. We, who have inherited power and wealth, can help.

She’s compelled, she’s compelled by what she’s seen
And she tells us, she tells us do anything you can
To help, oh please help, there’s so much to do
And I’m just Esther Kristen

Kristen and her family started The Mercy House for pregnant girls living in the streets of Kenya.

The Mercy House exists to provide alternative options for pregnant girls living in the streets of Kenya. The Mercy House will aid them in nutrition, housing, prenatal care, counseling, Biblical teaching and job skills for sustainable living.

Above all, they covet your prayers. And maybe, just maybe you can also get involved. I'm using my own small voice in this vast Internet to send out a plea for help. I'm sending my own small contribution each month from my Paypal account to add to the other little bits that others send in so that it can become enough to make a difference.

Today I gives thanks for mercy. The mercy I see being shown to others. The mercy I see dwelling in the hearts of mankind. The mercy that has been shown...to me.

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Matthew 5:7

4 justifications:

  1. This is just beautiful. Thank you for loving mercy with me

  2. I feel a little like Paul Harvey with the rest of the story. "Esther" is Sara's Grand-Aunt, her grandmother's sister on her Dad's side. Esther and Sara both went into a prison in Springfield, Mo. where Sara's grandparents ministered in for 40 years. Sara sang and Esther shared of her ministry with children with Aids in Africa. The applause for Esther was deafening from the prisoners and sustained. A note of trivia, Sara was smuggled into prison when she was 3 months old in attending a Christmas Eve service. Her entire family are absolutely incredible spirit wise.

  3. Maliiiiiiaaaaaa,

I popped over to thank you for posting the Therapon/Face2Face button on your site, but I saw this post and HAD to read. Kristen amazes me with the follow through to what she experienced in Africa. You've characterized it beautifully and your "small voice" will move mountains.

    You've inspired me!

ScotIrish - I love the 'rest of story'! I've always enjoyed hearing the inspirations and stories behind songs. Thank you so much for sharing that here.

Robin - Thanks, friend! Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday!!
