When you work from home, the days all begin to run together. There's not much, except maybe scheduled phone calls, that distinguish one day from the next. If it wasn't for having children in school, I'm not sure I'd know Monday from Thursday from Saturday.
Several years ago, back when Friday actually meant the end of the work week and weekends were not a time to catch up on work or jam packed with sports games, birthday parties and choir performances, we established Friday pizza and movie night.
I'm thankful that we've continued it for so long. I'm thankful that when I'm sitting down to plan my menu for the week, that Friday's dinner is always a known. It will be pizza whether it's homemade, delivered or from the frozen section of the grocery store.
I'm thankful for the approximately 90-120 minutes of peace that exist when the kids are too distracted watching a movie that they don't remember to fight with each other.
A meal that noses won't be turned up against, a chance to escape reality for bit and dive into a motion picture story.
I'm thankful for having something to look forward to each week, something that defines time and creates rhythm.
I'm thankful for the way it brings our family together.
